Matthew Kotzen

Matthew Kotzen is a South Florida native who has spent his career on both sides of the negotiating table. He earned his B.S. in Accounting, with high honors, from the Fisher School of Accounting at the University of Florida, then went on to earn his J.D. from the Walter F. George School of Law at Mercer University.

In 1996, Matthew began practicing law as a trial associate at a large, multi-jurisdictional insurance defense firm in Fort Lauderdale, representing insurance companies directly and in defense of claims. That inside view of how insurers evaluate and fight claims gives him a distinct advantage today, representing policyholders in insurance disputes.

Matthew eventually switched sides, expanding his practice to represent people injured in automobile and truck accidents. He has represented thousands of injury victims, along with property owners fighting insurance companies over damage from hurricanes, floods, and other catastrophic disasters. He is admitted to the State Bar of Florida, the State Bar of Georgia, and the State Bar of Texas.

Born and raised in South Florida, Matthew believes strongly in giving back to his community. He has served as President of both the North Dade Regional Chamber of Commerce and the Aventura Chamber of Commerce, and was awarded a Key to the City of Aventura by then-Mayor Jeffrey Perlow. He is also an active fundraiser for charitable causes, serving as a board member and Treasurer of the Hollywood Democratic Club.

Matthew’s work has been recognized industry-wide. He is a Lifetime Member of Best Attorneys of America and a Lifetime Member of Lawyers of Distinction, was named to the Top 100 Civil Plaintiff Attorneys by The National Trial Lawyers, and was ranked Top 10 Best in Florida by the American Institute of Personal Injury Attorneys. In 2018, US Business News voted him Best Personal Injury Attorney for Southern Florida.
