What Types of Trucks Are Common in Anchorage Truck Accidents?

Anchorage is the largest city in Alaska, and for that, it has a lot of commercial activity. This activity relies on varying commercial vehicles, and they are not limited to intercity transportation. The city relies on different types of commercial truck services.

The most common of which include the following:

  • Box Trucks
  • Dump Trucks
  • Flatbed Trucks
  • Garbage/Waste Trucks
  • Refrigerated Trucks
  • Service Trucks

Suffering an accident due to any of these truck types can entitle you to pursue legal action against the party responsible. Let our Anchorage truck accident lawyers help you through the process and pursue compensation for your suffering.

Common Types of Truck Accidents in Anchorage

Truck accidents can be of various types and severities. The most serious types include head-on collisions or underride collisions. However, the other types can be equally devastating, and it depends on the speed and point of impact.

In June 2025, a fatigued driver suffered a medical emergency and drove into a restaurant in Anchorage. [2]

The most common of these accidents include the following:

Head-On Collision: This is the most devastating type, and it happens when a truck collides with another vehicle head-on. This accident usually ends in severe injuries or fatalities, as the impact can severely damage the vehicle in the truck’s path.

Jackknife Accident: This occurs when the truck’s trailer swings out to form a sharp angle up to 90 degrees, making a jackknife shape. This can result in blockage, swerving off the road, or the trailer colliding with other vehicles.

Rear-End Collision: This happens when a truck collides with another vehicle from behind, or vice versa. This can be a result of sudden braking, low visibility, or negligence from either of the involved drivers. It is one of the most common types of motor vehicle accidents.

Rollover Accident: This happens when a truck tips and rolls over to its side or roof. This is usually due to sharp turns, high speeds, uneven cargo loads, or slippery roads. This is most in box trucks, as their shape can make them difficult to maneuver in challenging conditions.

Side-Impact (T-Bone) Collision: This is another devastating type of accident, when a truck strikes the side of another vehicle. This creates a “T” shape, hence the name. These crashes often happen at intersections.

Underride Collision: When another smaller vehicle collides with the rear or the side of a truck, it can result in an underride collision. The smaller vehicle usually slides beneath the trailer of the truck.

Getting injured in a similar accident can bring injuries and many other challenges. Our Anchorage truck accident attorneys are here for you, and we will help you recover damages and compensation for your injuries.

Who Can Be Held Liable for a Truck Accident in Anchorage?

The liability of a truck accident can fall upon various parties. This usually depends on whose direct or indirect negligence caused the accident. That is where understanding the cause of a specific accident can help determine liability.

In most cases, the liability falls upon the following parties:

Cargo Loading Company: If improper cargo loading results in a truck accident, then the loading company can be held responsible. This applies if the unsecured or overweight cargo leads to an accident.

Maintenance or Repair Provider: Trucking companies hire third-party maintenance companies and repair providers. If they fail to do their job and their negligence causes an accident, then the liability could fall upon them.

Truck Driver: This is usually the primary liable party in most cases, as the driver’s negligence is usually the leading cause of a truck accident. If the driver was drunk, distracted, or overall reckless, the liability will fall on the driver.

Truck Manufacturer or Parts Supplier: This is the party that either makes trucks or supplies parts for them. Therefore, if defective or malfunctioning parts, such as brakes, tires, and other mechanical systems, lead to an accident, the manufacturer or part supplier can be liable.

Trucking Company: If a commercial company has hired trucks for its services, then the commercial entity could be held liable. This includes delivery, cargo, and freight companies that lease trucks for their fleets.

Determining liability is one of the key factors in pursuing justice. Our Anchorage truck accident lawyers will review your case, examine the evidence, and establish the party that caused the accident. Then, we will pursue legal action on your behalf.

Proving Negligence in A Truck Accident in Anchorage

Proving negligence in a truck accident can pose various challenges. First, you need thorough evidence to back up your claim. This evidence can vary, including medical records, accident reports, accident scene photos or videos, and witness statements.

Once we have the necessary evidence, the process of proving negligence includes the following:

Duty of Care: We will have to demonstrate the duty of care owed to you by the liable party. In this case, we will have to show the duty of care owed by the truck driver, commercial company, or anyone directly or indirectly involved in the accident.

Breach of Duty: The breach of duty occurred, which resulted in the truck accident. We will show this by demonstrating the negligence of the truck driver/liable party and how their actions were the reason behind the accident.

Causation: We will demonstrate the link between your injuries and the truck accident. This can be proven by using witness statements, medical records, police reports, or testimonies from experts.

Damages: We will show the damages you suffered due to the accident. In other words, we will show the economic and non-economic impact on your life, and how you suffered various losses because of the truck accident.

Demonstrating these can be challenging, but that is not for you to worry about. Our experienced Anchorage truck accident attorneys have handled many cases like this and will do the same for you.

What To Do After A Truck Accident in Anchorage?

The immediate aftermath of a truck accident can be difficult. You may have no choice but to seek medical attention or get ambulanced to the nearest hospital. However, if you are able to, you can take a few actions to ensure your safety and protect your legal rights.

Here is what you should do:

1. Ensure Safety and Call 911: The first thing you should do is ensure your safety and move away from the road. Then call 911 and seek medical attention if you are injured. This will also request the police at the scene, and their accident report will be key in proving your case.

2. Get Medical Attention: Truck accidents are highly likely to result in severe injuries. Therefore, you must seek immediate and thorough medical attention. You should also secure medical records, doctor’s notes, and scans/imaging reports of your injuries.

3. Document the Case: Begin documenting your case as soon as you can. Secure footage or photos of the accident scene if you can. Also, seek out witnesses and their contact information. Other than this, you should also document the injuries, recovery, and treatment costs.

4. Notify Insurance: You should notify your insurance within the first couple of days, depending on your insurer’s policy. If they reach out with a lowball offer, do not accept it. Only speak to them once you hire a lawyer.

5. Talk to Our Truck Injury Attorneys: Consult our Anchorage truck accident lawyers when you can. We will handle communications with insurance, investigation, and the gathering of evidence for you. We will also defend your rights in court, if needed.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

The first thing you should do is seek medical attention for your injuries. While you may not feel injured right away, some injuries may appear or hurt later. Other than that, you should also take photos of the accident scene and injuries.

Keep a dedicated folder for any physical documents, such as medical records, police reports, etc. Keep your digital evidence in a pen drive or cloud storage for safekeeping. This also includes medical and police reports, photos, contact information, insurance correspondence, and receipts for expenses.

If you can, take photos of the accident scene and make a video. Gather dashcam/surveillance cam footage of the accident, or your attorney can do it for you. You should also gather witness contact information.

An experienced truck accident lawyer can investigate your accident, gather additional evidence, and build your case. They can interview witnesses, and if needed, also enlist accident reconstruction experts to provide testimonies.

It is best that you speak to a truck accident attorney as soon as you can. This is particularly important, as your attorney can gather key evidence, like camera footage or driver logs, before they get deleted or tampered with.
